SWALLOWING STORM CLOUDS

Image
Cleanse horizon, nourishment for hereafter  Feel it in your teeth and lungs  Erase depression plug the holes with laughter  Only instruments high strung  I’ll spend my days swallowing storm clouds  Elucidate your panorama  When your future’s disguised in dark shroud  Dress it up in fuzzy pajamas  Your bloodstream filled with birds and bees  Heartbeats echo rings of trees  Stardust falling from your eyes  Spectral photosynthesize  Take a breath, fill yourself with atmosphere Feel the world in analogue Inhale the dawn, the salmon sun’s souvenir  Exhale the day’s epilogue  Looking through the see through moon Infinity at half past noon  The entire taste of the universe  Echoes skips plays in reverse  I’ll spend my days swallowing storm clouds  Absorb all the cursive rain When your future’s buried in a death shroud  Rehash it all and start again  Fill your world with swirling sound Har...

SEA OF TRANQUILITY

Image
From the cellar of the sea of tranquility, composing postcards from a submarine  Murmuring my claustrophobic cosmic tune Ringing out from seashells all across the moon There’s no such creature as a tranquil sea The heart’s a monster built from angry breathing  The mirror sky rains down consternation  Convexed by condescending constellations  I need a big sister to guide me home  Swimming the sea of tranquility  Is vast abysmal and completely empty  The echoes float above the moon  And freeze together in acrid cocoon

FLEDGLING SONGBIRD

Image
Fledgling songbird trapped in the green  Silent screaming empty phrases  Still as statue speckled heart  Paralyzed talons transfixed  In the trees in the clouds  Incoming adolescence  Overhead over lawn Overcome apprehension  Fledgling songbird deadpan rocking chair  Ticking time away flowing flowing Clock the corner light the ledge  Flee the family mother father  In the head in the heart  In between integration  Oversight over sound Overall undergone  Fledgling songbird fledgling songbird  Fledgling songbird fly away from me  Fledgling songbird fledgling songbird  Fledgling songbird fly away from me

THUMBNAIL SKETCH

Image
Dancing in the margins of the blueprint spilling out  Dancing in the margins of my gravelly dragon doubt I’m just a thumbnail sketch, destined to be erased The shadows smudge the page, leaving a murmured trace I’m just a thumbnail sketch, destined to be erased Our strongest shapes echo and artfully interlace Singing in the corners, blending harmonies with ghosts Singing in the corners, tonics tide upon the coast Scribbled portrait fluctuating  Work in progress slowly aging  It’s a Rorschach evolution  With your crucial contribution  Glowing in the spaces left between our synchronized breaths Glowing in the spaces we embody after death  Expanding upon our story with never ending grace

ISN’T

Image
Isn’t gone isn’t forgotten, isn’t lost to time  Isn’t poking eyeballs out from beneath this slanty rhyme Isn’t Batman isn’t Robin, isn’t Mr. Freeze  Isn’t saving kittens isn’t hanging them up in trees  Can’t be defined by what you’re not  Can’t do the chaser without the shot Can’t pilfer minutes from your clock  Can’t bring em back again  Isn’t carved in alabaster isn’t a cartoon  Isn’t abstract animal assembled from balloon Isn’t pulled in 12 directions not super glued to the floor  Isn’t valentined after like Dorothy Lamour Can’t be defined by what you’re not  Can’t lace the shoes and forget me knot Can’t speak in sidewalk without chalk Can’t keep your secrets in Isn’t spun among the living isn’t netherworld  Isn’t clutching to yourself like umbrella ununfurled  Isn’t curly twirly whispy isn’t a straight line Isn’t born under a semi fractured neon sign  Can’t be defined by what you’re not  Can’t connect the transi...

I WISH I WAS THE RAIN

Image
I wish I was the rain, I wish that I could wrinkle the earth And baptize everything, the lawns and cars and frowns and birds, deciduous emotion reborn in the cold I wish I was the rain, to feel myself evaporate into air  An epic transmutation, a transubstantiation, a total dissipation to the void  I wish I was the rain, to conjugate inside the atmosphere  Ruminate above the world, percolate the starry sky, whisper the impermanence of clouds I wish I was the rain, to combine and become the waves and sea Anonymous as water, so lucid so essential, reliving the cycle over and over and over and over and over a

GABARDINE VOICES

Image
Sound the alarm for inclement reason, a tornado of toxic beliefs  Shots fired, it’s open season for those diverging from similarity  We’ll sing with our gabardine voices, striking back against the hateful storm Entwined in fear resistant noises, turn your collar to the disinformed It’s a perilous panorama, so mispronounced nowhere to hide You can’t fit in constrictive pajamas, you explode the narrowly defined  We’ll sing with our gabardine voices, striking back against the hateful storm Liberated from fatal choices, casting off I’ll-fitting uniforms  So let’s dance with our variations, shimmering in distinct beauty  Eclipsing outside negation, supernova with disharmony

DRUGSTORE SIGN SONG

Image
Make a home in my name, you can live in my letters  Incubate, neon lights, wrap yourself in the luminance  Apothecary marquee, a peaceful abode I’ll watch over, blanket fort, I’ll be safe and sound  I’m not a doctor, I’m not a lodestar I’m not a circus strongman  But I can care take, I can defend, I’ll be a makeshift moon Apothecary marquee, a guardian angel  I’ll protect you, I will shield, I’ll be safe and sound  Make a home in my name, you can live in my letters  Consonants, constant tents safe haven in sentences Apothecary marquee, a peaceful abode I’ll watch over, blanket fort, I’ll be safe and sound

THE UNCOMFORTABLE SKELETON

Image
Reknit the bones, reset their tones Rehouse the known, reset the moan Reknit the bones, realize the grown Rehouse the known, realize the drone Reknit the frame, rewrite game  Rehouse the blame, rewrite the name Recall regret, reflect regret  Release regret, renew reset Reknit the facts, recode the cracks Rehouse distract, recode retract Replace the bones, reform the home The house unknown, revise headstone

CHICKEN AIRPLANE SOLDIER

Image
An ill wind brings an entourage, and your heart is an autumn garage  Prepare your plexus for the fist thrown by the punchline atheist  You can drown down, you can succumb to the tugging tide. You can crawl under the grass and forever hide. Or you can clench your toes and slay the savage sea, just chicken airplane soldier to attain your apogee. Nothing makes your present tense as does your run on sentience. You can find a temporary cure in the complex taste of the calendar  Makes yourself a Cupid’s arrow for the world, a freewheeling firework with empathy unfurled. Yes with your open heart you can soothe the savage sea, just chicken airplane soldier right through the vicious debris.

SARDINE PUBLIC LIBRARY

Image
Angel and demon glow in your head, stillborn undertow fermenting your bed Jagged tempo cut by fuzzy knife, scalpel to radio to afterlife  We’re absolutely free, Sardine Public Library Peel back the tin, feel yourself twin, Repression cemetery  Your visions a marquee, Public Sardine Library  Rotary phones eat up the bones, make yourself a sardine tree Poets don’t sink they flutter to the floor, spit out your drink and slide right through the door  Tabling content meant for the ghost, honor the advent of the almost  Smile like a mustache glued to your lip, sing like a car crash championship  Back in the itchy pocket of your mind, there is a fish who sets your watch unwind Salute the mystery, Sardine Public Library  Peel back the tin, feel yourself twin, transcendent tributary  Your visions a marquee, Public Sardine Library  Rotary phones eat up the bones, you’ll be a sardine tree

PERMAFROST

Image
Permafrost a silver Pentecost, chromatic daydream lost, the neighborhood embossed  Day for night the evenings acolyte, the afterthought of light, stars turn away in spite  I feel my age, sheets pulled away, clouds glower down their necks, it’s a quote unquote day  Permafrost, broadcasting blood exhaust, bouquet frozen mid toss, memories made moss Under bed, follow the fraying thread, echoing tangled head, synonym for misread  Prayer lowered head, scared pill bug spine, gravity, bourbon and scotch pine I hold my breath, trees do the same, trapped in a purgatory we’re ashamed to name  I’ve finished counting, I’m done with words My rib cage flutters, a home for hummingbirds  The permafrost covers my skin, it fills my grin

PREDETERMINED SANDWICH FIXINGS

Image
Peel the stickers, put them back exactly, keep the cadence, mark it in your pulse  One set of footprints, never deviating, the same map leads to the same results  Raise a glass better than your children, make a plan and stick yourself inside  Portioned out, the calendars are locked in, found a favorite flavor in to hide  Every track soothing and familiar, every breath follows the same path Every sandwich fixing predetermined, every note the same place on the staff Swallowed curtains, snapped puppet strings, visible cough on phonograph  I see the dismantled table of contents, I hear the punctuation laugh Taste the feelings hid in the basement, wash them down with spilt surprise  We say our prayers by spinning and spinning, all fall down with mismatched eyes  Scramble up the vanishing mountain, disregard the lightning’s power  Change the music to flutes and feathers, resurrected as a sunflower

RHAPSODY IN OLIVE DRAB

Image
I sat there gulping sentences like giant sips of beer It’s like my head was second guessing thoughts as they appeared  The sun embarrassed hid behind the shadowy horizon  Swallowed up my shoulders in parenthesis disguise  Took the words right out, I forgot about it  Licking up the kitchen tiles to clean my footprint secrets  Fritter up the chimney to escape the sweet repeat what I don’t need the lovey happy huggy compliments to puddle me My vampire brain retreats at sunny adjectives befuddle uddle uddle me

GUMBY ON THE MOON

Image
There’s something in the sky that whispers to you  It’s ringing like a phone inside your green head  You feel it like the tide, a sense of longing  By rocket Icarus your way to the moon  I saw the maker’s hand appear to help you  Lift you up and get you on your way  I mean, I’m not, it’s fine, it gives me some pleasure  We all need some help taking that first step  The moon’s made of the same substance that you are  A comforting sense of familiarity  The atmosphere’s full of a sense of foreboding  The landscape breathes the same air that you do The moon, the moon, the moon does not want you  The moon, the moon, the moon is not safe  The moon, the moon, the moon will just trap you  And freeze your little body of clay  There’s something in your heart that’s calling to you  He’s not light years but only a ladder away  The moon puts up her fists but you will not be deterred  You take him back to...

THOUGHT BALLOON

Image
O say can you see the setting sun sink in the sea  This chemical puddle’s a Rorschach test for your memory  Surrounded by conifer frowns stretched beneath tombstone eyes Unfurl the umbrella of cerebellum and begin to rise Gliding and hiding up behind my thought balloon  Swimming and brimming with lies in my thought balloon  This Monday of miscreant carbon dioxide preaches profound  And doorbells of dead history earthquake melodically from underground  Breathe particles of misted memory exhale them into your lap Pull yourself up on a sunbeam your toes lift above your bootstrap  Floating and clearing my throat in my thought balloon  Drifting and sifting myself in my thought balloon  Suffocate Never Meditate

THE CHRISTENING

Image
You were named in the raindrops, your bloodstream constellated. Waltz of bone and echoes where once we precipitated  The flooding of the rivers, the puddling of the pavement  We scorn the nimbus and ignite in our amazement  We’ll replace all that evaporates, we’ll dream it all In crayon  Let the name melt on our tongues spun out in infinite wingspan In the pond near the bison we watched the turtle swim In tangled tines of branch and brine we lost sight of him  The density of breathing in the humid summer air Our faces blur, repeating the turtle’s sudden snare We’ll rebuild all that is erased, we’ll dream it all in crayon Let ourselves fade into focus, spun out in infinite wingspan Dread is a compass, it points you away  Death is a compost of bygone delay  Suck in your teeth in a loop of decay Begin all over, disrobe disarray  Inhaling all your hopes, exhaling all gravity  Filling your pockets with stars from tops of trees
